Certification
Registration of all Herefords in Australia is the responsibility of Herefords Australia (HAL)www.herefordsaustralia.com.au Older registered animals may have been issued with registration certificates showing MH or MP however this identifier only identifies that the animal has some degree of miniature genetics in its breeding and DOES NOT mean the animal is automatically classed as a Miniature Hereford.
Once you have the registration certificate issued by HAL, this certificate (or copy) is then to be forwarded to the AMHCA, so that the AMHCA can verify (based on genetic lines) that the animal is a Miniature Hereford. A provisional certificate will then be issued if the animal passes. When the height measurements are submitted after the animal turns 2 years and they meet the height requirements, full certification will occur. The AMHCA will only consider verifying that a Hereford is a Miniature Hereford if you are a member of the AMHCA.
To be eligible for CERTIFICATION by Australian Miniature Hereford Cattle Association an animal must be registered with HAL and must be:
- by an Registered (HAL) and Certifiable (AMHCA) Miniature Hereford sire and out of a Registered (HAL) and Certifiable (AMHCA) Miniature Hereford dam;
- of a frame score two [2] or less at 2 years of age.
Grading up to achieve purebred status as a Miniature Hereford is permitted if using Herefords registered with Herefords Australia Ltd . These animals will be called “purebred” Miniature Herefords as per the following chart.
For Example an HAL registered Hereford Cow crossed with a Certified Miniature Hereford Bull would result in a Grade 1 (50%) Miniature Hereford calf and so forth.
